About the Role
Our client is a $20b systematic hedge fund looking to hire an AI Research Scientist to build LLM tools for various business use cases. Researchers will use NLP techniques and transformers to extract information, answer questions, and build predictive models from unstructured data such as news, social media, traditional media, events, regulatory filings, governmental policies, and other textual data. You’ll work on generating insights, building and backtesting trading models, and develop novel NLP techniques, LLM models, and large scale transformers.
Responsibilities
  • Use quantitative research techniques to research, design, test, and deploy systematic alpha models using unstructured data such as news, social media, traditional media, events, regulatory filings, governmental policies, and other textual data;
  • Develop novel modeling techniques using your expertise in NLP, machine learning, and neural networks;
  • Collaborate with engineering and data sourcing teams to vet data vendors, ensure data integrity and quality, and work with other researchers to expand research agenda;
  • Attend leading academic conferences to stay abreast of latest research and techniques, including ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPs;
Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, finance, or similar STEM disciplines.
  • 5+ years in a research role developing Large Language Models, NLP models, neural networks, transformers, or other ML models.
  • Proficiency in advanced research techniques, statistical analysis, time series analysis, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Strong programming abilities in Python, C++, Java, or other.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, data manipulation, and working with large datasets. Experience with SQL, Pandas, NumPy, or other data analysis libraries.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to formulate and solve complex problems, think critically, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  and ability to effectively convey complex ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to set your own research agenda, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of accomplishments in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence, such as first author publications, projects, or presentations at leading academic and industry conferences (ICML, ICLR, NeurIPs, etc).

In accordance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law, the typical base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $300,000. Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental, and other wellness plans and 401(k) contributions. Discretionary bonuses can be a significant portion of total compensation. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
